In placing an order with Shane at Gold Phoenix today I was told that GP can’t do an orange soldermask. Apparently only red, green, blue, and yellow. Odd that considering Sparkfun has all sorts of purple, orange, and white boards in their inventory. Does SF get special treatment or have they begun going to a different board house? Am I just not saying the magic words or using the secret handshake?

GP may not do custom colors for their special price prototypes. But if you do a production run, I’m sure they will do almost anything you pay for.
I have never asked Shane about orange or purple, but I thought that white was on the list, although the white boards SFE has are not theirs, and also are somtimes. You could always ask Shane if SFE gets those colored boards done by them.
I doubt SFE would be using another board house just for a few fancy colored boards.
It is possible that GP only go to the trouble for bigger customers/larger runs, rather than for just a few panels.
(Also you didn’t mention black, I have had black boards made before. Maybe you are just getting the “too much effort” response?)
