Hi. I found and fixed a problem with a SEN-15805 TMP117 board. There might be other such boards in SparkFun’s inventory, or having been delivered to other customers, so I thought that I’d bring the issue to your attention.
Of two SEN-15805 boards, one of them worked, but the other would not respond to an example sketch. After some head scratching, I examined the failing board under a microscope and found a soldering defect on one of the Qwiic headers. Pin 4 (along with the nearby mechanical mounting tab) had a “head-in-pillow” defect, i.e., the pin was resting on a pillow of solder, with no wetting of the pin.
Once diagnosed, the problem was easy to fix but, for that sort of defect to make it through SparkFun’s Q/A suggests that SparkFun could benefit from adding Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) to its manufacturing process, lest such frustrating defects make their way out of SparkFun’s door.
