Sparkfun Analog MEMS Microphone Breakout - ICS-40180

Dear Sparkfun Staff,

I experimented with the ICS-40180 breakout board and it worked very well in my photoacoustic experiment. For better mecahnical stability, the light source LED and the microphone need to be placed on the same board. I revised the schematic and layout accordingly, and am about to send the Gerbers for fabrication. However, I could only hand solder parts in my lab and am not sure how to attach the MEMS microphone since the pads are completely covered. Would you mind advising techniques or vendors that could help out on this step?

Thanks,

John

Tiny dab of “no clean” solder paste on each pad, then place the mic on top of the pads. Now, heat the board from below with a hot air rework station until the solder paste melts.

You can usually tell when the paste melts because the component will jump into alignment and stick in place a bit when poked.

Don’t use too much heat or you can damage the board or mic. Check amazon for the solder paste.
