I got my IR Control Kit a few days ago and as simple as the tutorial layout is, I could not get it to receive anything other than a zero return. I loaded a smaller sketch that had only essential statements. I installed latest IRremote by Shirriff library (2.8.1), and was unsuccessful at getting it working. Switched out Arduino board, tried different IR Receiver - zippo. I dreaded the task of digging into the library, and I’m not sure I would have figured it out. Then, on a whim, I installed an earlier library release and all is well. I found version 2.8.0 to work. I don’t know if there is a bug in 2.8.1 or if some new feature rendered older functions obsolete??? I don’t know enough about github to post anything there. I’m sure this will be resolved in near future, but for now, if you are trying to bring up the demos (and your own apps) with the TSOP 38238 IR receiver, and you are only seeing zeros as return codes, go back to version 2.8.0 of the IRremote.
