SparkFun RFID Starter Kit driver not recognized

Hello, I am trying to set up the SparkFun RFID Starter Kit, and all the support pages I have viewed don’t seem to have a solution. I have tried “How to Install FTDI Drivers” both “Windows - Quick and Easy” and “Windows - In Depth”. I have Installed Arduino IDE and the X64 (64-Bit) driver along with the setup executable and it said installation was successful. Even after this on Arduino IDE it still only lists the device as “UNKOWN COM3”. I tried Updating USB Serial Port (COM3) with the driver but it says “The best drivers for your device are already installed”. Is there any other things I can try?

-Thank you

You might have 2 versions of FTDI installed; try wiping the old ones and start over with this one https://ftdichip.com/drivers/ - any change?

Also be sure to use a known good cable/USB port, and follow the general steps here https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sp … are-hookup

Hello and thank you for your response, I tried uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling CDM212364_Setup and it still is not working. I attached a picture of the drivers it says it has installed, if they are the wrong ones I am unsure if these are the correct ones and if not I am not sure how to uninstall them since uninstalling the driver didn’t seem to work.

-Thank you

It appears you’re all set, com3 is present and working. Just connect your serial terminal to com3 and scan a card and you should see the card number.

Don’t quote me on this but if I recall correctly those readers talk at 9600 baud. Double check the documentation to be sure.

Hello thank you it seems you are right, but i am unsure of what board to pair it with, I do not see the SPARKFUN RFID STARTER KIT listed there.

-Thank you

Unplug the board. If com3 dissappears, that’s the port the board is on.

Hello yes thank you it seems to be that port. I am not highly knowledgeable on this sort of thing so I am trying to figure it all out. I have read https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sp … -guide/all but I am still unsure of what board to match the port with it did not seem to mention that. The one I’m using doesn’t seem to be listed here or I am unsure of the name. I am also not entirely sure if I need to attach the separate physical pieces together for anything to work either or how to do that. I do see a picture of the ID-12LA being used in the hookup guide with an extra piece (Reader Breakout) that I do not have so I am unsure if it is necessary. I have attached additional screenshots to help.

Thank you

No arduino board is present or needed. Does not matter what you select. If it’s not in the guide, you don’t need to worry about it.

You need the ID-12, the red “rfid usb” board and at least 1 compatible rfid card.

The ID-12 is the actual rfid reader and the “rfid usb” board is the interface that connects the reader to your computer. The reader and usb board must be connected to one another for anything to work. Re-read the guide, it tells you what to do.

You can ignore everything below the line that says “Now, we’ll do the same thing in RealTerm. (Mac users, you can try this section using CoolTerm)”, that is going to be too advanced for you and it doesn’t offer you anything you need.
