The Arduino IDE 1.8.12 can not detected my sparkfun RedBoard DEV 12757

Hi

The Arduino IDE 1.8.12 can not detected my sparkfun RedBoard DEV 12757 (unknown device).

I have read bei https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/us … k-install- USB Serial Driver Quick Install FTDI Driver Installation

If you plugged in a SparkFun RedBoard, it will look like the image on the left.

But on my Device Manager I can’t see the “Other devices with USB Serial Port”

However, I see under USB controller: Unknown USB device (error when requesting a device description)

I was able to install the driver FTDI US Drivers but without effect and Windows says the best drivers are already installed

Do you have a USB Serial Driver for my sparkfun RedBoard ???

My system is Laptop Dell Inspiron N7110 Windows 10

I thank you for your help

Regards

OK, try this.

First try a different USB cable, sometimes a bad cable causes this to happen. If that doesn’t work:

  • - Plug the RedBoard in
  • - Go to Device Manager and find the boards COM port or the unknown device.
  • - Delete that COM port / device and if windows asks, delete any driver files associated with the COM port.
  • - Unplug the board.
  • - Download, unzip and run **[[this file](https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM21228_Setup.zip).
  • ** - *
  • - Let the installation process finish.
  • ** - *
  • - Plug the RedBoard back in.
  • ** - *
  • - See if the COM port appears with no issues in Device Manager.
  • ** - *
  • - You may need to unplug and replug the board once or twice for the installation process to complete.

    Hi Chris

First of all, thank you for your quick reply.

The problem is I don’t see COM port / devices at my Device Manager

I see only under USB controller: Unknown USB device (error when requesting a device description)

I have the driver from this devices deleted and the USB device also uninstalled and unplug the board.

I have downloaded your file and CDM21228_Setup.exe installed and ReadBoard plug back.

Regrettably without any changing also after unplug and replug the board once or twice.

I see only again under USB controller: Unknown USB device (error when requesting a device description)

Now I believe that the cause is the bad USB cable, but I have only this.

I will place an order for a new item, but I’m from Switzerland and the shipment take more the 4 weeks.

I will contact you again when I have the new USB cable.

    Regards

    Willy

    Hi Willy.

You might check a local store for a USB cable, there’s nothing special about the ones SparkFun carries and if you can find one locally, it would save you time and money. Let me know how things turn out.

    Hi Chris

    Thank you for your tip.

I saw that I can also buy the USB 2.0 mini-B 5 pin cable from a local store.

The store has delivery problems due to the corona virus, as soon as I receive the cable I will contact you.

Yes I can save time (important) but no money the price in Switzerland is 12 $. ???

    Regards

    Willy
