Speakers for Qwiic MP3 Trigger

I’m trying to figure out what size speakers to use with the Qwiic MP3 trigger, but don’t know enough to understand how the board’s amp’s specs should match the speaker’s impedance and wattage. (It says the amp can supply 1.4W.)

What would be an ideal speaker? What would be too weak? What would be dangerous?

We don’t carry an ideal speaker for the Qwiic MP3 Trigger but our [.5 watt speaker will work as long as you keep the volume low. If you turn the volume up too much your apply more than .5 watts to the speaker and can burn it out.

A 1.5 to 2 watt speaker would be ideal, you can crank the volume up as much as you want and not worry about blowing the speaker out since the Qwiic MP3 can supply at most 1.4 watts and a speaker rated above that will be fine with that.

Going a bit bigger on the speaker wattage is better but don’t go too big or you won’t have enough power and you won’t get much sound. Anything between 1.5 and 5 watts should be fine. :-)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9151)

Based on your advice that a speaker up to 5 watts should be fine, I ended up getting the [CQRobot Speaker 3 Watt 8 Ohm, which is pretty loud when you turn the volume all the way up (though it did clip a bit).](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0738NLFTG/)
