SPI use possible with Dragon-debugWire debugging?

The AVR-Dragon info says the SPI bits are tri-stated when debugging chips with the debugWire interface.

This would seem to make debugging of systems which use SPI to communicate between chips impossible with debugWire.

Am I interpreting this correctly?

I believe that it means they are tri-stated on the dragon end.

Since you’re likely to be using the 10- or 6-pin ISP connector when using debugWire, all the SPI pins are still connected to the dragon. It simply means that you can expect the dragon won’t be affected by activity on the SPI bus.
