I bought 2 of the SSR-40DA solid state relays (COM-13015) and I can’t get either to work. The load output is wired in series with an outlet and I am currently testing with a small electric palm sander. The input voltage is 12 volts DC and the red led does turn on when triggered. I have tested my wiring by twisting the two load wires together and the sander will operate. When connected to the SSR it will not. I substituted in a mechanical relay and it works fine. I can only conclude the solid state relays do not work.

Good news is that I tried different types of loads and got them to work. It appears at this price point they are not reliable with inductive loads. Since my ultimate load is a 1500 watt water heater in my camper I think I’ll be all right.
The bad news is that I followed the link to request an RMA and filled out the form. I received a reply from John Trepke requesting the forum thread. My first reaction was since you expect me to figure out where to post on the forum you should be able to find a thread on the forum. Nevertheless I replied with a link to the thread. After 48 hours with no response I forwarded my reply to him with a comment. 24 hours later I still don’t have a response. So don’t bother John. You certainly haven’t sparked any fun with me. In future I’ll stick with Mouser and Digikey.
