For the SparkFun “Stepper Motor - 68 oz.in (400 steps/rev)”, what is the maximum RPM that this motor can output before the torque starts to decrease? The part numbers are 42BYGHM809 and 20110920

Hi Jon.

We don’t state a max RPM on our steppers because RPM is dependent on a ton of factors.

  • - What driver you're using
  • - What voltage your driving the stepper at
  • - What step size you're using
  • - How you ramp the speed up.
  • - How much current you're driving the stepper at

    • The faster you drive stepper motors, the less torque they have and you eventually hit a speed where the motor either begins resonating (losing energy in the process) or the torque gets too low to spin the rotor. The only way to know for sure would be to experiment with the motor on your driver. Once you find the fastest speed, it should be pretty easy to figure out the RPM from how fast you’re sending steps.
