Still Can't Decide Where to Buy a Starter Kit

I intend to buy a starter kit so that I can prepare to enter the electronic world. But I encounter the same problem as many people do: the stock of the starter kits in many online stores is zero.

That worries me a lot.

Do you have any suggestion where I should buy?

There is no one “kit” that is right for everyone. The “electronic world” is really quite broad. There is electro-mechanical/robotics, sensors, computing, communications, graphics, human/machine interface, and signal processing just to name a few areas. Where would you like to begin? What skills do you have now? Do you have fundamental skills like soldering and Ohms law? If not there are some great tutorials on the Sparkfun website and further web searches will turn up a wealth of information. Once you know and can tell us where you are starting from and what direction you want to go, the folks on this forum could perhaps suggest a list of beginning tools and projects. You can then start to accumulate what you need to make progress. Sparkfun is a great source of stuff, but not the only one. Digikey, Mouser and other retailers can help fill in your acquisition list once you have it.

I’m really new to this. I have general fundamental knowledge from my electronics course in college, mostly basic circuits, but I am a bit stuck as to where to start. My roomate just keeps telling me to get an arduino kit and I have no idea which one to get. We are trying to do data logging and some light controls on rockets. Can anyone recommend a good starting point? I am curious to learn about microcontrollers anyways for some personal projects too, but have no idea where to start. Sorry if this is too basic of a question
