Using Telit GSM862 QUAD PY, an old module but with the latest firmware, with the Sparkfun evaluation board and an external power supply and some dedicated (M2M data plan) Vodafone UK SIMs. The SIMs work fine in a Nokia mobile and I can surf the web via GPRS using Vodafone’s public APN.
With the SIMs in a Telit module (I have four) I can send SMS but cannot make a GPRS connection. I’ve tried lots of combinations that have been posted in these forums and blogs on the web.
AT+CGDCONT=1,“IP”,“internet”,“0.0.0.0”,0,0
AT+CGACT=1,1

PS:5.02.203/AL:6.04.604-GM862 QUAD PY
When I try a monitoring command I get this:
AT#MONI
#MONI: UK VODAFONE BSIC:14 RxQual:7 LAC:006F Id:594A ARFCN:93 PWR:-80dbm TA:1
I think the culprit is the fact my RxQual is 7, i.e. it’s getting a huge amount of data errors trying to talk to the network.
I’m in a central London location. Vodaphone works fine in the same location with GPRS. As do two other networks.
I’ve tried a different type of aerial, the next plan is to try SIMs from another network.
Anyone using Vodafone UK with these modules?
I’ve hit a brick wall with technical support from Vodafone, Telit etc and I’m running out of ideas to try. I’ve even RTFM…
Thanks,
Ben.
