What is the max speaker watts that the Tsunami (QWIIC) can handle? The info regarding speaker specs is
For impedance matching the audio output channels, the impedance of the speakers or amplifiers should be above 3.8kΩ.
For example, can it handle two speakers at 15W RMS 8Ω without an additional amplifier?
No, 8Ω is waaaaaay less than 3800Ω. You will need st least a 15 watt amplifier. Amazon should have something that will work great with the tsunami. Try to find an amp that doesn’t have it’s negative inputs tied to ground or you could get hum in your audio.
Thanks, I do have available the [Adafruit 20W Stereo Audio Amplifier - MAX9744. However, the audio inputs are not differential, the ground connection is connected directly to the power ground. If I do get hum in audio I could resolve it with speaker+ via 10kΩ to ground? I have two [HiVi B3S 3" which are 8Ω, Power Handling (RMS): 15 Watts, Power Handling (MAX): 30 Watts. I would just need to be careful not to put the volume all the way or I could damage the speakers as the amplifier watts are higher?](HiVi B3S 3" Shielded Aluminum Driver Square Frame)](Pinouts | Adafruit 20W Stereo Audio Amplifier - MAX9744 | Adafruit Learning System)
If you use separate power supplies for the tsunami and amp you should be OK as far as hum. Another alternative would be to use a [ground loop isolator between the two devices.
You can use a larger amp than your speakers are rated for, just take care to not turn it up more than about 70%.](Amazon.com)
parts arrived and connected it up, it has a buzz/hum when audio playing and when not playing, turning the volume (potentiometer) less than half makes the hum/buzz less noticeable. Potentially a ground loop isolator would fix it like you said? However, since all the parts I connect are either via terminal screws or soldering I don’t find any isolators that are without banana/rca plugs, any suggestions?
With the MAX9744 amplifier the audio inputs are not differential, the ground connection is connected directly to the power ground, this chip does not handle differential inputs.
