um-96 and TTL connection

Hi everyone,

I currently using bluetooth or my robot project but due to the NLOS limitation, I’m looking at using um-96 to replace bluetooth. However, I have problem getting the UM-96 modules to work properly. Here are the sequence of my tests, hopefully somebody can give me some hints:

  • Connect to max232 adapter to com 1 of 2 computers

  • Connect RX to TX and TX to RX (TTL)

  • Launch Hyperterminal on both pc, set to com1, 9600, 8n1 then connect to com 1

  • Any thing I type from one hypterminal will show up on the other hyperterm

  • This tells me that the RX and TX works for TTL

  • On 2 um-96, jumpers are settup as follow:

A: shorted

B: not shorted

C: not shorted

D: not shorted

E: shorted

  • Connect GND and VCC to 4.5 V power souce

  • Connect TX of um-96 to RX of max232 and rX of um-96 to TX of max232

  • Power on the um-96

  • On hyperterms of both PC, see see the init string:

uM96V23AXM

  • After that, any thing I typed on a hyperterm will not show up on the other hyper term.

  • The rx lights on the max232 shows no data received when I hit the Enter key to send string from hyperterm.

Can somebody give me some hits of what I did wrong or missing?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Greetings.

I have faced with the same problem! But I use two UM12v23, PC and basic stamp mcu. I receive both bootstring, and then I can not recieve any data. But bootstring (init) on PC-side I receive without use MAX232…

Or it in a cable. It is necessary to disassemble to have a look.

BS2P side:

UM96 TX – to RX PIN on BS2P40

UM96 RX – to TX PIN on BS2P40

UM96 RST – to +5V

UM96 SLEEP – to GND

UM96 Vcc – to +5V

UM96 GND – to GND

UM96 SGND – to GND

PC Side:

UM96 ATxD – to PC RS232 RX PIN

UM96 BRxD – to PC RS232 TX PIN

UM96 RST – to +5V

UM96 SLEEP – to GND

UM96 Vcc – to +5V

UM96 GND – to GND

UM96 SGND – to GND
