I can connect to and see the Xbee 3 using XCtu. It wants to automatically update the firmware but hangs at 0% ( SparkFun WRL-15131 XBee 3 Pro Module - RP-SMA Antenna). There is an option to update the firmware if I had a downloaded file but I cannot find the firmware. There are some downloads available but I cannot tell what one to use - they have no part numbers or good descriptions.
Update: My firewall was blocking the software from getting the firmware somehow. You have to have access to the internet or this XCTU Software will not work.
I am looking at both radios now on XTCU and cannot get them to talk. Following this tutorial: Basic XBee 802.15.4 (Series 1) Chat | Digi International . When I try to discover devices on the same network, I get - There was an error discovering devices - Status error. Is there a better one?
I re-updated the firmware to use 802.15.4 TH from a tutorial and everything started working. They were both set up for ZIGBEE before. If there was an install guide of why ZIGBEE vs 802 I would be interested in that.
I have tried connecting with 2 computers where ftp1.digi.com was blocked. The software does not have a timeout. It will just hang. I had to disconnect (or white list the site on the server) and restart the XCTU software. Error while performing force updates: ftp1.digi.com
I just read an XB3 with known older FW* and the PC ethernet cable dangling. There’s nothing I can’t easily decline or X out of, I wouldn’t even call them nags.
*I use the 802.15FW, too. It’s what my legacy applications used, XBee2 and devices from other mfgs at the time, and similarly struggled with the FW variants when the Xb3s were introduced. In the end, I came to the same conclusion that 802.15 worked with less initial configuring than Zigbee.
