hi all,

I have a problem. I am new to all this so bear with me.

i have an usbasp connected to my atmega32 like so

but now when i want to upload a hex file with eXtreme Burner i get the error:

power on failed

cannot communicate with chip

i was hoping some one can give me some pointer on how i can fix this.

What program are you using to program the avr? Are you using windows?

A screen shot of the error would be helpful.

I noticed on your schematic that the reset pin on the atmega is not connected to the ISP connector.

It won’t work this way.

you need to burn the atmega8 with such a programmer which can write the high and low fuse settings. without these settings the programmer wont work
