Use xbee to read hardware version of end device?

I am new to zigbee and want to know if any knows how i would read ther hardware version of a zigbee device?

In the Digi manual, “Sending ZigBee Cluster Library (ZCL) Commands with the API” it shows me the command to use to achieve the result but am a bit confused on how to do this?

Is there any mailing list etc specilaisinh in xbee/zigbee discussion?
