Using WRL-15031 (IR blaster with WiFi) with RC-5 remote at 36mhz

I want to turn on my air conditioners remotely. They’re older Friedrich units, and according to some web research, they use the older RC-5 standard, which operates at 36mhz. Most remotes use the NEC standard at 38mhz.

The kit comes with a TSOP38238 IR receiver, which appears to be much more than a simple IR photocell, as it’s hardwired to 38mhz.

Is there another component I can use, or some other workaround, which will allow me to capture and replay the 36mhz IR signals?

Hi Roger,

Unfortunately, we do not carry a 36kHz IR receiver but you should be able to just swap in a 36kHz receiver for the 38kHz one that comes with the kit and it should work with your air conditioners. The manufacturer of the TSOP38238 does have a 36kHz version of the same sensor per the [datasheet. You can probably find that version from a larger distributor like Mouser or Digi-Key. The part number for the 36kHz version is TSOP38236.

I hope this helps you find the right parts for this project. If you have any other questions about any SparkFun parts you are using in this project, let us know and we would be happy to help as much as we can.](https://www.vishay.com/docs/82491/tsop382.pdf)
