Venus Data Logging

Does the data logging venus gps require any special messages to be sent or am I just not getting good enough reception? I am using the following

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Or let me know if this should be working as it is

hehe I had this exact same thing a couple posts down.

I don’t have the data logging chip, just the one with the venus and sma connector. I also have the same antenna as you.

It is just bad reception… I know even if you’re outside. I’ve noticed that sometimes it takes up to 20 minutes to get a lock around here with it. Sometimes only a minute or so… I just know when I get a lock, I try to keep it running as long as I can so I don’t have to wait that 20 minutes again :stuck_out_tongue: I suggest just letting it run for a while, and come back to hope that the LED is flashing.

Also, once the chip gets a lock, then re-acquiring the lock from a warm reset is a lot quicker :slight_smile:

Is the antenna the problem? Does anybody have an antenna that works well with these things?

It just took 8minutes 50 seconds to get a lock in my room. with the above setup.

I think GPS needs two important data from the satellite to work properly. The short term data called ephermsi and the longterm data called almanac. The almanac lasts about 6 months or so. The ephermis downloads in about 30 seconds and almanac in about 8 to 12 minutes. Once you have new almanac in the chip then after that the first fix should be quicker. I am not sure if the new GPS device work in this way though

yea after leaving it on for 30 minutes or so it gets lock. After that it links quicker.
