Venus GPS Logger - Download from memory problems...

I can get a fix, accurate to within a couple of metres. Even indoors, so i was quite happy.

I have had the software (the download link on Sparkfun) up and running, connected it up to the GPS, and it is showing everything as it should be. I can record NMEA data as it is sent to the computer, and view that in google earth fine. However, when i set it to log GPS data, it responds to say that it is logging. But when i try to download the data, it tries to save it as a .log file, not a .txt file, and when i open that, all i can see is stuff like this:

@b.aߍ+ 9yÉÿþ5¯ N€ @ € ‚€ € € €„€ €Â€ €È

€ €C€ €Ä€ €Æ€ € € € €Ç€ €É

Well, I have found a solution. Rather than using the software that sparkfun links to (still need that to set up the device), I have found a different program, GPSBabel. It will download the log memory from the Venus logger, and output it straight to a Google Earth file, including with altitude data retained - so the course can be seen in 3D.
