What is the greenish Layer on PCB?

Hi there,

On some or most PCBs you can say a greenish layer that covers most of the PCB except for pads. What is this layer is called? and how to generate it using EAGLE? Thanks

Regards

PS

What is its use?

.

It’s solder mask, to prevent solder bridges and to protect the tracks.

You get it pretty much automatically with eagle. Tstop and bstop are the layers that define this. I believe it’s set up as the negative of the resist layer. You’ll need to generate the layer as a gerber to send to which ever board house you are using but even most CAM jobs do that as well. So, you just have make sure to send the right file(s).
