I just ordered SparkPNT FPL. I’m not sure which kind of LoRa radio do I need for setting up RTCM between my RTK base station and the FPL. The base station is Raspberry Pi 5 with Flex pHAT.
Could I use SparkFun Pro RF with an antenna? Should I connect it to RPi or pHAT?
The Facet FPL has a built-in LoRa radio. But it is only compatible with other Facet FP units and the original Torch (if you upgrade the Torch LoRa firmware to 3.0.0). It is not compatible with the Pro RF LoRa, or the LoRa Serial Kit.
But, you can disable the built-in LoRa, and instead: connect a separate external LoRa unit to the Facet FP, and a matching one to your pHAT assembly.
I hope this helps - please let us know if you need more information,
Paul
I have a pair of SiK telemetry radios that I could use for this. What’s the best way to connect it to the FPL? Should I get SparkPNT FP Machine Interface Cable?
There is some new Facet FP product documentation available at:
The connectors are described here:
The JST connector is described here:
Edit: pin 1 of the JST connector (which is the Red wire when using this JST-GHR cable) does provide 5VDC for SiK radios. The 3.3V quoted in the docs is a mistake; it will be corrected soon.
The Lemo connector is described here:
The Lemo connector and FP Machine Interface Cable will only be useful if you want to power the Facet FP from an external DC voltage source (6VDC to 20VDC). The RS232 TX and RX are not yet supported by the RTK Everywhere Firmware.
I am sorry. There is a mistake in the Facet FP documentation for the JST connector. That connector does provide 5VDC for SiK radios. You can connect an SiK radio directly to that connector. The docs will be corrected very soon.
