I am working on a sound installation for an art gallery. There are many SparkFun MP3 triggers available and I am not sure what the difference is between little soundie, papa soundie, Qwiic trigger and the Mp3 and WAV trigger.
Which one would be most suitable for my project?
The idea is simple - when people ring a door bell, a sound recording of a persons voice plays out loud.
A few things to think about:
The sound board will need to connect to a speaker - probably a ball speaker or something bigger.
The quality of the sound playing should be as high as possible - I want the quality of the persons voice to be audible.
The sound should play reasonably loud.
The sound board should be easy for me to use, as I have little previous experience - I don’t know how to use arduino.
So long as you do not have to work with any high voltage/mains with the doorbell, this should be a pretty simple project with just a button and one of our audio boards.
As for a specific board, since you need it to be fairly loud I would recommend one of these two MP3/WAV Triggers with on-board amplifiers:
Both of these have a similar functionality where a simple button press will close a trigger contact and will play a track associated with that trigger pin. To get started with either of these, I would recommend reading through the Hookup Guides for these boards linked on their respective product pages. The guide for the Qwiic MP3 Trigger is at the bottom of the description. The WAV Trigger has the Hookup Guide link in the “Documents” tab. I will also link it [here for easy reference. The guides will go over the hardware, interfacing with the board and have some examples to get started.
