Since you folks seem to be insistent on only getting UL (NRTL) listed wall adapters in for your fixed voltage units, is there a reason that the Adjustable Voltage Wall Adapter (TOL-19898) that you sell does not carry a UL, ETL, CSA, or other NRTL listing (label), based on the product photos on the site? Is it not possible to get a listed wall adapter with the adjustable voltage functionality, or is there something else I’m missing here?
I don’t think sparkfun carries any listed adapters?
Setting the R.Pi-branded adapters aside momentarily as their compliance paperwork isn’t SparkFun’s responsibility, the 5V, 2A USB adapter (TOL-16893) has a fully validated UL listing (I looked the UL label’s file number from the product pictures provided on the website up in the UL Product iQ database). Furthermore, the other fixed voltage/fixed blade adapters Sparkfun sells – save for their USB-C adapter (TOL-19466) which provides no listing or labeling information in the product listing, and the 5.1V 2.5A USB-MicroB adapter (TOL-13831) which, while being documented as UL/CSA listed, doesn’t provide enough information in the product listing for me to verify such – appear to be from the same part family found in the file based on their datasheet part numbers, although with a subvariant code that isn’t formally on file with UL (something that very well could be an administrative issue with the listing).
So, the evidence weighs in favor of SFE selecting for listed and labeled AC adapters within the limitations of their product sourcing stream. This makes sense, as there’s no telling what you might get from the usual suspects without any qualified eyeballs watching over things. (Don’t believe me? Look at some of Big Clive’s teardown videos on Youtube where he takes apart substandard AC adapters and roasts them for PCB design miscues.)
