Windows 7 and debugging

I wish you a happy new year.

I just have a single question:

Until now I have worked with an AT91SAM7S and a parport wiggler under WinXP Pro.

Now I updated to Win7 64bit and can’t install my old software…

I am now planing send my wiggler into it’s retirement and buy an usbprog adapter, but I don’t know if this will fix my problems.

Does anybody run an usbprog adaptor under Win7 or Vista 64bit?

How stable is the yagarto environment under Windows? I had much problems loading and debug the code with the wiggler and yagarto because It often didn’t load the binary perfectly…

Can anybody help me starting with the new environment?

Best regards,

Dirk

If your ARM code is 32KB or less and not for sale, you can use the free versions of IAR/Keil.

I’m not sure it will help you use your old wiggler, but I also have had some trouble with yagarto and eclipse under Vista x64. I got tired this and installed VMWare and a clean copy of XP x32 and haven’t had a problem ever since.

The ONLY bread crumb of hope that I might offer is that SOMETIMES, in SOME CASES, people have been able to run Windows XP compliant software in “Emulation mode” under Windows 7. This requires enabling Processor Virtualization settings in the motherboard BIOS, and configuring something in Windows 7, but I don’t have enough personal experience to guide you beyond that. This might give you the start of a trail to follow…

since Windows 7 is just Windows Vista with a different makeup job applied to its face, I don’t hold out high hopes, but…

Or Virtual Machine using Sun’s VIrtual Box - freeware. Great.

For windows and linux. And of course, Sun’s x86 solaris

Thanks for your help.

I have tried to install my old tools in a virtual machine (vmware) and map the lpt port to it, but every access was so extreme slow that you could read every access step in the log at ease :frowning:

I just decided to put my wiggler into retirement and buy a new usb based arm debugger (usbprog with OpenOCD support).

I am trying to switch to Yagarto+Eclipse now, but calling make results in an exception… It doesn’t look like many developers have switched to 64bit yet :frowning:

Does anybody know if yagarto runs under Win 64bit?

Best regards,

Dirk

Just to mention that:

Yagarto does compile now since I changed paths from “program files(x86)” to c:\yagarto\
