Wrong NMOS in Discrete Semiconductor Kit

Hello! I recently received my Sparkfun Discrete Semiconductor Kit which I ordered from DigiKey. Kit-13682 Batch #173047

In this batch, I got a 5LP01SP as my PMOS, based on the “XB” markings, but didn’t have any YB marked ones corresponding to my NMOS. But through process of elimination, the one marked VN2222LL seemed like it should be it, and a quick search agreed it was an N-Type MOSFET. Cool. So I soldered together an example project, and it didn’t work, and I spent basically last night and all of today trying to figure out what was wrong with my design.

Well, I may have found at least one problem. According to the datasheet for this item, its pinout is “Source, Gate, Drain”, whereas the pinout printed on the kit’s box, and the pinout in the datasheet for what the box claimed I had, lists the pinout as “Source, Drain, Gate”, like the P-Type I got. Oops… So maybe the VN2222LL isn’t a drop-in replacement for the 5LN01SP, which the box says it provided me, after all?

It’s sorta my fault for not being more careful with the datasheet, but also I kinda trusted that by putting it in the kit, you guys might have verified that the substitution you were making was equivalent. Just thought I’d throw this out there in case anyone else has the issues I’ve had. Thanks!
