Hello and Greetings,
I have recently purchased two Xbee Pro 60mW Wire Antennas and one UART to USB Interface Card.
The problem I am having is when I try to install the driver for the Interface Card and open a com port. Every time I try to connect the device their are errors and the device does not ever make connection to the XTU software. Here is what I have tried.
- Using Vista:
I first install the drivers using the CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe installation file found on SparkFun’s website.
Upon connection of the Interface Card (with the Xbee Antenna plugged into it) windows indicates that a problem occurred and that it was unable to recognize my device. Under device manager I am unable to see any new com port and instead see an unrecognized USB device with no associated driver.
- Using XP-I see to get a little farther in XP but still no solution
I first install the drivers using the CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe installation file found on SparkFun’s website.
Upon connection of the Interface Card (with the Xbee Antenna plugged into it) XP regonizes that the device is a Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge and continues installing the driver. But then, after about 10 seconds, gives an error saying “A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your device may not work properly.”
I looked under device manager and see that a new com port is showing up with the name “Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM4)” but it has a yellow exclamation point next to it.
When I try to open the XTU software I am unable to open any com ports.
- Both XP and Vista - using different drivers
I even went to digi international website and tried installing their drivers after removing the drivers found on Sparkfun.com and still do not get connection.
It seems that the XP route is the most promising but I’m stuck on what I should do now. For some reason windows is just not finishing out the installation of the driver. I’ve made sure to plug the usb into the same slot on my computer each time I try to install the driver. I’ve tried my two computers (windows xp and vista) and have even tried a friends xp computer all with the same results. I don’t know if there is something I am doing wrong or if the device itself is just working properly. It might be of help to note that two of the outside pins on the UART to USB Interface Card were bent upon shipment but I just bent them back assuming it would be ok. All connections seem to be ok.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have spent many many hours trying to solve this and just can’t think anymore!
Thanks sincerely,
Ivan
