I agree with many of you that the Digi documentation is quite bad. I thought I would give all intrested an important note regarding the different firmware versions to choose in the X-CTU tool.
If you buy Digi XBee Series 2.5 modules from Sparkfun they are programmed with XBP24-B (for Pro) or XB24-B (for Basic). If you are developing new products and don’t have very special requirements and would like to create products that are using “clean ZigBee” you should reprogram modules with:
XB24-ZB (for basic), version 2164
XBP24-ZB (for pro), version 2164
These firmware are the ones that are delivered with the new XBee ZigBee modules.
Remember that even Digi themself recommend using the new ZigBee compliant firmware when developing new products.
