XBEE series 2 without explorer. AT with dumb terminal?

Ok I have two xbee series two transceivers. I also have a TTL shifter (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=449) connected to a serial port on my computer. Is there anyway to access the ATT command set in the radios with just a TTL shifter? I have setup a regulator (http://www.kronosrobotics.com/Projects/ … rface3.pdf) to accommodate the 3v from 5v conversion.

Is there anything else special with the explorer?

Or can I get away without having to purchase one?

I would like to setup both radios for a simple transparent connection. and just use them like that.

Thank you ahead of time.

The TTL shifter you linked to also inverts the data so this should work fine between an XBee and a PC com port. Once connected all you need to do is bring up a terminal program, connect to to comm port the TTL shifter/Xbee is pluged into and type in the AT commands.

Take a look at the schematics for the TTL shifted and the RS232 explorer board. The data lines (TX & RX) are equivalent but the explorer also has the 3.3V regulator and level conversion on the RTS & CTS control lines.

The Xbee is most happy with a well regulated 3.3V and a 1uF cap close to its Vcc pin. Look in the XBee document which also show that the only connections required are Vcc, Gnd, Din & Dout so you should have it covered.

Thank you for such a prompt response. I was trying to connect: XBEE>>SHIFTER>>PC with the regulated resitors and other components from the diagram link http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=449 to regulate voltage. I ended up removing everything except capacitor, two resitors, 1 LED, and power. I powered the SHIFTER with the 3.3V out of the REGULATOR and wallah! I am even able to access with the X-CTU Software.

Thanks for the support.

Great!
