Zio Qwiic appears to draw more current than my RedBoard can provide

Hi,

I’m trying to use the Zio Qwiic 128x128 OLED Display (LCD-15890) without much luck. I’ve tried two Qwiic Sparkfun boards with it, first the SparkFun Qwiic Pro Micro - USB-C (DEV-15795) then the SparkFun RedBoard Qwiic (DEV-15123). When plugging the display into either of these, there is no activity on the display (no light, no signs of life) but the power light on either of the boards dims substantially and I am unable to upload any code while plugged in.

I’ve been through multiple set up guides, read data sheets, now tried two boards (I assumed to micro one may not have enough juice so I bought the bigger one), and am stuck a crossroads here. Others don’t seem to have this same issue and now I’m concerned there may be a short in the display causing an open circuit which is resulting in this seemingly large current draw from the board.

Any help would be very much appreciated, I can provide more info than needed.

Thanks!

Blake

Hi, what’s your power supply? I mean, how are you powering up your Qwiic Sparkfun Boards? From your laptop’s USB or a DC Adapter?

Sounds like a bad board to me, it shouldn’t need much power all. Certainly not enough to dim the power led on your host board. You might consider requesting a rma on sparkfun.com.
