Access wifi config ,WIFI mode typing rtk.local with smartphone

Hi, good morning.

Is there a way to access to WiFi config in the wifi mode typing rtk local in a phone? I had luck doing it with the laptop, but when I try to do with and smartphone it doesn’t work. …

With the Ap mode works great because U only have to connect to the hotspot and it opens a web browser tab directly to the config…but I use a lot the wifi mode.

Thanks.

I just tested this on RTK Express v3.8, typing ‘rtk.local’ into Chrome works fine from my desktop and my phone. My cell phone/desktop are on the same WiFi network as the RTK device.

Note - you have to be on the same network (the same access point). MDNS doesn’t work across subnets.

Hi Sparky,

I’m in the same WIFI network with the phone and with the Facet, i double checked but somehow only works with my laptop. I’m gonna Try with another browser in the phone.

I’m the same, I have never been able to access with rtk.local

Interesting.

Are you using v3.8?

Do you have MDNS enabled?

Does the captive portal work?

Hi, yes I tested in V3.8, MDNS was enabled I checked in serial configuration. While using AP config with the phone, it connects and automatically opens a web browser directly to configure the facet, that works very good.

Only issue I’m having is while wifi mode is enabled , rtk.local only works with my laptop. But again I haven’t tried another browser, currently using Chrome.

Ok, good. The fact that rtk.local is somewhat working is less of a concern to me since the captive portal is working. Additionally, you can always type the displayed IP on the unit into a browser to get access.

Hello, the wifi config captive portal has worked for me most of the time. A couple of times I connected to the facet network but there was no wifi config portal.

In general it has worked. Using Chrome on your cell phone.

I’ve run across phones before that stop listening to WiFi if you connect to a access point that doesn’t provide internet access. That might be your problem? Don’t know of a workaround unfortunately.

Hi,

I really don’t have problems connecting to the unit in the Access Point mode, even tho the unit doesn’t provide and internet connection i can still configure it. (both, phone that with the last update automatically opens a web browser directly to the config page and laptop typing rtk.local)

The only issue i have is to access to the config in the WiFi mode typing rtk.local , in this case both devices (Facet and phone) must be in the same WiFi connection in order to interact, but i can’t do it with my phone typing rtk.local only with IP number, it only works with my laptop typing rtklocal.

This way of configuring the unit is very comfortable, because you don’t lose internet connection to do it.

I have an RTK Express running firmware 3.8 and am running Android 14 beta on my phone. When I go into the field, I only have my phone and the RTK Express. (I am a hobbyist, not a surveyor). I configured my RTK Express to access an ntrip server over Wi-Fi provided by my phone acting as a hotspot. This all works well.

I am attempting to access the RTK Express using QField running on my Android phone. Although I have MDNS enabled on my RTK Express, I cannot access the RTK Express using rtk.local. I can put my RTK Express in config mode to determine its IP address and then connect to the RTK Express using its IP address. This seems to work over both TCP and UDP.
