The data sheet listed for this product https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/7/6/b/5 … _Model.pdf shows pins 2 and 3 are swapped between the male and female end. Is this correct? Why would you do that?

Unfortunately, we didn’t design or manufacture this product. The original manufacturer didn’t swap the wires fully, they are swapped back. You should be able to confirm if you use a multimeter.

When you see that in a diagram it indicates those wires are a twisted or differential pair.
2 goes to 2, 3 goes to 3 but the actual wires spiral around one another inside the cable.
