Configure WT32 over USB Connection

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a WT32 breakout board from here. I contacted Bluegiga about how I should program the device and they said I should be able to over the USB interface. When I did a search on this forum I’ve found most people are doing this over the RS232 connection. Has anyone successfully been able to program this thing over USB? I’ve just made an entire custom PCB board for my project and I don’t want to hook everything up yet until I know it will be able to be programmed over USB.

Hi,

When you say “program this thing via USB” do you mean use the software in CSR Bluesuite 2.0 for example the PSTool utility to configure PSKey values or the DFU Wizard utility (DFU=Device Firmware Upgrade) both have the capability to connect to the WT32 module via the USB interface.

The USB drivers are a bit of an issue, there are drivers for WinXP to access the Bluetooth features but there are also drivers for Bluesuite to use the PSTool and DFU utilities it is a bit awkward changing between the two drivers.

I have a document that shows how to change the drivers along with both drivers in a zip file if you need it pm me your email address but it is best not to put your email address in a forum message.

Drivers for Win7 64 bit don’t appear to be available and I am not sure about Win 32 or any Vista drivers. It may be possible to install them as legacy drivers but I haven’t tried this.

I prefer to use the LPT to SPI method when connecting to a WT32 module for PStool or firmware upgrades but an OIK is needed for this method. I do have some spare PCB’s for a homemade OIK if you do get stuck with an unusable WT32 module after trying USB.

Yes, by “programming” over USB I mean to configure the PIO lines, set which bluetooth profiles to use, etc. Is it a safe thing to say that anything over RS232 can also be done over USB? I’ve been focusing too much on the hardware aspect and have looked little into the software of this device. I’ll PM you my email, any information you can provide would be great.

I just soldered up my power connection and the breakout board last night. I can’t seem to get any USB activity when I plug it in… here’s my schematic

. All I have connected now is just the power (3.3v regulator line) and the USB ESD protection. VCC is connected to VDDIO and VDDBAT through the breakout board. I’ve connected to these and BTEN, is this correct?](ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs)
