Confused: Can a WRLWRL-00582 BlueSMiRF direct connect to...

I’m somehow confused :?

Can a WRLWRL-00582 BlueSMiRF directly RX/TX connect to and small RS232 device if, ofcourse, I provide it 5v also? The device to connect to still has the sizy 9pin connector byt I will desoldert this.

It is not that the OTHER SFE BlueDongle RS232 Bluetooth Modem pricetag put me ($59 to $69) off, but more, I rather not want and need a big antenna and sizey 9 pin connector if possible to avoid I rather use the small Blusmirf module. The Sparkfun product description states:

“The remote unit can be powered from 3V up to 6V for easy battery attachment. All signal pins on the remote unit are 3V-6V tolerant. No level shifting is required.”

Can anyone enleighten me please ? That would be really appriciated.

RS232 is a different serial level:-9 → +9.

If you want a bluesmirf to talk those voltage levels, you need a level shifter. We sell one on the bigger board, but you can use a max232 chip if you want a smaller sized solution.

Thanks, my confusion is gone! I will actually order both solutions to experiment with.
