I’m using a SparkFun Simultaneous RFID Reader - M7E Hecto, and the long-range antenna isn’t reading Gen2 tags (though the card itself continues reading them). I’m using the recommended products pasted below? Is there same setting in the URA that I need to change to make the antenna work?
You have to make a change to the board itself.
See these directions for instruction on what to change.
Thank you for your help on this!
I picked up a soldering iron kit and gave it a shot (after watching a Sparkfun tutorial video), but I think I must have destroyed the resistor in the process (photo pasted below) because now neither antenna is working.
I ordered a new set of resisters, but they’re way too big (about the width of a USB C port, not the tiny like a flea). Any idea where I can get the proper resistor online?
You don’t need a resistor, just use a small piece of fine wire (the original part was 0 Ohms, which is equivalent).
The pictured solder job is pretty messy and needs to be cleaned up. If the antenna trace is shorted to ground, that would certainly not be functional, and the output stage would probably be destroyed during transmission. Check for short circuits with your multimeter.
As he said above, you can just remove the resistor/clean the area and start over, just solder a piece of wire or longer solder blob in its place ![]()
For future reference, resistors are packaged by their ‘footprint’ which is their size…you can always use the ‘eagle files’ under ‘documentation’ on the product page, in this case they are “0603 package”
Yeah, totally dirty job on the soldering, but it’s my first time ever trying it. The longer solder blob worked like a charm, and now the long range antenna works!
Thanks to both of you for your help on this!
