Fab It! 2007 - Has anyone tried it?

I recently came across Fab It! 2007 and they claim you can merge Gerbers with it. So far, I have only used it to view and so far I really like the autoload feature that finds all of the required gerbers and loads them for you. I have not figured out merging yet. If I do and it works well, I will consider paying the ~$395 for that feature alone.

Here is a link to the trial download:

Has anyone else tried it?

I never merge gerber file before. Curious why people is doing that? Is it for PCB designers or just the manufacturers?

If you are interested in merging gerber files check out [GerbMerge. I have used it several times, and I am very happy with it. It takes a while to figure out the configuration file, but once you understand how it works, it’s a breeze to use. It’s also open source at cross platform which is awesome!](http://claymore.engineer.gvsu.edu/~steriana/Python/gerbmerge/index.html)

I tired for weeks to get that damn program to work. I finally gave up and started to search for a more user friendly option. We really need some kind of GRAPHICAL version.

I have heard about some kind of Eagle script, but those who don’t have it, don’t know about it and those who do have it are usually not willing to share. At least, that has been my experience.](http://claymore.engineer.gvsu.edu/~steriana/Python/gerbmerge/index.html)

[Here is a good tutorial that helped me figure out how to write the configuration file.](http://www.ladyada.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3309&highlight=gerbmerge)

Fab It! does have an easy-to-use graphical solution which Automatically Merges multiple gerber jobs. Essentially you load each set of gerber files into a separate job in Fab It!, the you create a Panel, and select the jobs (ie. set of gerber files) that you want to have merged into the panel. You can also define how many of each job you require on the panel. Fab It! will then calculate multiple configurations, and let you decide which is best.

For more information, please request a free evaluation of Fab It! and refer to the help manual for detailed explaination (Learn Guide: Merge Gerbers - Automatically) .
