FACET L-BAND MOSAIC Not Working Properly – Stuck in Base Loop

Sorry for yet another question, but it seems like I’m the only one who has issues with every device I buy, jajaja.
Hi, I previously shared my questions on this forum regarding the FACET L-BAND MOSAIC device, and I eventually decided to purchase it. I received it a few days ago, but only today had the chance to try it out—unsuccessfully.

When I turned on the device, it kept insisting on starting in base mode and displayed the message “Survey Started,” followed by a screen showing “BASE,” then the model of the device, and then it would repeat the cycle over and over again.

It was impossible to use it with either SW Maps or Survey Master, as it kept connecting and disconnecting every few seconds. I’m guessing it might be something related to the Bluetooth.

I’m attaching a video and a photo in case it’s something that needs to be configured or set up. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you attempted to connect via usb? You can use the serial comm to trigger a reset

I have downloaded the tools offered by Septentrio, but the receiver keeps disconnecting repeatedly. The firmware is up to date. Could you please guide me a bit on how to deal with this issue?

That’s a bad boot loop. Sorry for the hassle!

First, you must double tap to select an item on from the display menu. Sorry, that’s not more obvious (interface design is hard!). Your video shows you selecting Rover, but then doing nothing. Eventually the menu times out and goes back to Base (not what you want).

Second, you should ignore RxControl and Septentrio tools for the moment. I suspect it has more to do with our firmware going awry.

Last, please do connect over USB and Configure with Serial. The main thing I recommend is a factory reset. A unit should start in Rover mode by default; I’m not sure why your unit is attempting a Base Survey-In.

We just replicated this on our side. Looks like a bug. Give us a bit. For now, you should be able to enter Rover mode and use the device in either Rover mode, or fixed Base mode.

Indeed, it can work in rover mode and fixed base—though I haven’t tried that yet. SW Maps works very well, but Survey Master doesn’t work. With the previous RTK Express units, I had to change the message rate values in the Wi-Fi config. Do I need to do something similar? Thank you very much!

I’d guess so - each program has its own quirks

Any chance you can boot one of the RTK Express units and view its settings to try and replicate them for the Facet Mosaic?

Thank you, I’ve been able to set up the device and it actually works great as a Rover — it’s the only way I can use it. When I try switching to Base or BaseCast (I’m not sure what the difference is), it starts a loop that prevents any information from showing on the display, and it keeps disconnecting from the app over and over. I’ll wait and hopefully there will be news soon!

This is a known issue. Sorry, the fix has not yet made it into the production release but it is fixed on release candidate. Here are the development binaries. You should be able to use any development binary after Feb 20th. We hope to have a production release in the coming weeks.

So just to be clear, I only need to update the firmware to one like this and the issue will be resolved? I’ll do it through the Wi-Fi settings. Thanks!

Correct. If update over the Web Config fails we recommend the GUI for firmware updates.

I don’t know why it’s getting so complicated. I’m following the instructions to the letter. I tried with the Wi-Fi config and couldn’t get it to work; the BIN uploads endlessly and doesn’t update. And when I tried using the GUI, it only showed this on the screen, and after that, I’m left with a pretty paperweight that powers on internally but does nothing, not even a display output. I tried switching to two different firmware versions, but it’s just not possible to update.

I’m not sure why the ESP32 is stopping after 12%. Have you tried a different USB port and/or cable? Can you revert back to the production v2.1 release using the GUI?

Indeed, with the method you recommended, I was able to install another firmware version, the one from March 10. Honestly, I haven’t been able to connect the base in any situation—neither as survey-in nor as fixed. Somehow, the corrections are not being output from the device.

As a rover, it works fine. I’ve tested the connection with a CORS network, and it always operates in fixed mode with excellent accuracy under normal conditions. The issue is that this device is meant to work simultaneously or as a base with my other rover, and this inability to use it as a base is limiting. I’ve tried with RTKLIB, SNIP, and Emlid, but the corrections never reach the NTRIP server.

Do you have any suggestions or upcoming solutions? I don’t see much sense in this device if I can’t use half of its features. With all due respect to the support team, they’ve been very helpful with my other issues.
