What are the memory requirements for rockbox?
Will it fit into my do-it-yourself mp3 player?

Hello
Your hardware is near this [one.
I don’t think Rockbox will work on this hardwares that don’t have at least 2MB of SDRAM. Maybe is really needed 4MB of SDRAM.
You probably don’t do software decoding and instead the VS1011 do the MP3 decoding… and you know, Rockbox do FLAC, OGG, MP3, WAM, ACC, etc, all in software - that’s the beauty
We need hardware and software hackers to join our efforts, would you like to join? - just contact us or me at: casainho @NOSPAM gmail . com – I really liked your project… how many time did you spend on it? are you alone?
We want to get an electronics online shop to produce and sell the Rockbox Player, that’s our final intention, to have it available so we can buy a “professional looking” Free/Open DAP (hardware + firmware).](MP3 Development Board - DEV-08603 - SparkFun Electronics)
I was nearly sure it wouldn’t run.
Yes, the player has a similar processor, with only 32KB of ram, and does the MP3 decoding in hardware.
I spent nearly a year developing it, mostly due to lack of spare time.
Anyway it wasn’t an easy project, since I designed the circuit from scratch, and for the software part I wrote a small kernel to achieve multitasking.
I’m also going to release the kernel as free software/open source, since it’s fairly general purpose and can be used for other projects other than mp3 players.
