GM862-GPS, 12 satellites, but no fix

Hi all,

I recently got a Telit GM862-GPS module. According to the NMEA sentences, it can see 12 satellites, but won’t get a fix.

I’ve left it for about half an hour, but still nothing. I’ve read all the posts on this forum. Some of them mention this poblem, but none seem to answer it. Any ideas?

Any help much appreciated.

What antenna are you using? It needs one with an amp.

Hi Leon,

I’m using the 1381LW/B (http://www.tdc.co.uk/antennas/antenna_gps1.htm)

I think it’s not amplified. I’m just trying it out while I wait for my amplified one to arrive.

But, what I don’t understand is: how come it can see satellites, but not get a fix? It can get the time and elevation/azimuth from them.

I think it needs a lot more signal to get a proper fix.

I’ve used a 26dB ceramic patch antenna with the GM863, it worked very well.

Leon

OK, thanks Leon. I’ll give it a go with this one, when I get back from the in-laws.
