GM862 quad band (using new cingular 3g sim)... problems!!!

Hello!

i recently bought 2 GM862 Quad band GSM units for my EE project. i also bought usb evk’s to connect to my pc for initial testings and settings. driver had been configured and i can communicate with the module ok.

now here is the problem.

  1. when i leave everything as default(initial factory setting): the green status LED keeps on bliking when i turn on the module with sim in it.

then when i execute at+creg, at+cops, and at+csq the results are

at+creg?

+CREG: 0,2

OK

at+cops=?

ERROR

at+csq

+CSQ: 99,99

OK

at#moni?

#MONI: USA 410 BSIC:45 RxQual:0 LAC:1795 Id:0283 ARFCN:595 PWR:-48dbm TA:0

so i changed the at#bnd=1, 2, or 3 for different band and the module LED stops blinking and it loses connection with GM862 module and i can’t type anything. i tried to restart the module by pressing the power button on the evk, the status LED blinks again and i can quickly run at+csq command before it loses connection again. it gets 31 result for at+csq which is really good signal but again the LED stop blinking and i can’t type on hyperterminal anymore.

i did so many stuff to re-establish the connection with module and it only works when i set the at#bnd=0 again. of course, this symtom happens again when i try at#autobnd=1. weird thing is that when i set the bnd=1 or autobnd=1, it looks like it’s getting pretty good signal quality but again it loses connection with HT.

are there any problems with my new pre-paid 3G cingluar sim? does GM862 module can’t handle the 3g protocol? these sims totally works fine with my GSM phone. or shall i go out and buy different provider? such as T-mobile or something or any advice?

it looks like my module works totally fine but when it comes to  finding a network, the problem arises!!!

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Sounds like a power issue…id suggest using an external supply.

i use “3g” sims in my telits. there is nothing different, other than the fact that the sim can store 64k of data.

I am a complete NOOB with this whole subject, however I am getting the same issue. I have both a Cingular and At&t card. The thing freaks out only when I have a card inserted

All I want to do is connect a bloody mic and put the thing into auto answer.

I am from Singapore, I also facing the same issue. Any one know wat the problem?

I fixed it by using an external power supply in addition to the USB. I would really try this first.

Now I am having other problems but at least that one resolved:)

That makes sense. The USB supply can only provide a limited amount of current, the GM862 can require peak currents of 2A or more.

I am using a GE864-QUAD and running into the same situation described by

“shocktech”. Where the module becomes unresponsive a few seconds after issuing AT#BND=3 and a bit longer after issuing AT#BND=1.

I am not using the EVK2. I am using a Lithium-polymer battery pack that I thought could handle the 2A peaks

Did using an external high current power supply fix the problem?

Thanks
