Hi
I’ve got a GPS Dead Reckoning unit and it work great, however I really need it to communicate to a PC via RS232, so I bought a RS232 Shifter - SMD but can’t seem to get it working. I’ve connected the Tx Rx and powered via 5v but don’t get anything at the PC.
Obviously I’ve missed something here so would appreciate any help to point me in the right direction.
Many thanks
Can you provide a diagram showing how you have the two boards connected?
Also, the GPS is a 3.3 volt only device, if you’re powering the RS-232 shifter with 5 volts, that can damage the GPS. You should be powering with 3.3 volts.
Please find a drawing attached…
Based on your answer, have I simply used the incorrect supply?
After reading the hook-up guide “there is a 5V pin on the PTH header along the side of the board that is regulated down to 3.3V. Make sure that power your provide to this pin does not exceed 6 volts.” as a better solution for a vehicle solution, rather than the 3.3v that needs to be ‘clean’.
Many thanks,
UPDATE----
I’ve just switched to use 3.3v on both units and noticed that I had Tx & Rx reversed on the RS232 Shifter. Now all up and running thank you…
