laser navigation sensor

My first post on the forum (hope i picked an appropriate one). Just wanted to give a quick shout out to sparkfun and int community. Just getting started and its been a big help.

So I am working on a project that requires a laser navigation sensor such as the [ADNS 9500. which i actually managed to pick up at [futureelectronics.com and the lens at [mouser.com, neither place had both.

I can not for the life of me find anywhere that sells them and has them in stock. I also can’t find anything comparable. Well i did find the [philips twin Eye PLN 2023 but i am begging to think its actually hoax :), the only thing i can find about it is that people hate mice with it as the sense because there are dual lasers there it actually has a bit of a z-access and your curses moves when you lift the mouse up.

Anyone else think a sensor like this would be a good addition to sparkfun’s inventory?

Anyone have any suggestions on a comparable sensor that actually exists

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the shout out first of all! In regards to the laser sensor, I know our product research team is actually currently working on getting samples for this. However, as you are discovering, legitimate sources are far and few between, so progress has been very, very slow on this. Hopefully we will be able to find something relatively soon, but if not, just remember we are working on this!

If you have any other suggestions, let us know and we will look into it.

This is quite exiting. At least I think so!

An excerpt i am particlulerly interested in.

Introducing our range of new products for the Navigation Sensors, like Wireless Gaming, Market’s lowest power sensors for both Laser and LED wireless application

Long story short Avago and Pixart have been in legal battles over laser navigation sensor patent infringement for the better part of a decade. A year or two ago Avago sold quite a few of there IP’s to Pixart[1][2]. Pixart has not said a damn thing about what they are going to do with them, UNTIL NOW!

HAPPY DAYS!

And they have updated there site.

Now let just hope they don’t make them a pain to get.

First time, i am getting awareness about this technique and happy to know remarkable features about Laser Navigation Sensor. This is really awesome and good idea for me.

So [PIXART has had the ADNS series of sensors on there site for some time now. Just wondering if there is any word on adding these to Sparkfun? Spasificly the [ANDS-9800.](http://www.pixart.com.tw/product_data.asp?product_id=76&productclassify_id=1&productclassify2_id=3)](http://www.pixart.com.tw/product_data_table.asp?ToPage=1&productclassify_id=1&productclassify2_id=3)

I don’t think we’ve looked into them yet, but I sent the link to our product hunter for him to check out.

Has there been any movement on this? Thanks!

I’m not sure. I’ll see if I can get Pearce in here to give an update.

Hi All,

We’re still at the point Toni mentioned earlier. I’m hoping to find a good solution close to the end of summer. As many have pointed out, the lens is a big hangup. We actually sold a similar module a while ago, but had to end production as they stopped producing the lens.

Hopefully we can get something out for you guys soon. If I had my way, a DIY mouse tutorial would accompany it.

Is there any update on finding this sensor?

Thanks.

I recently bought a couple of these on breakout boards, with lenses included, from here:

Perhaps SparkFun could work out some sort of deal with this fellow to build/distribute his design? It looks like he originally did a kickstarter campaign for the parts order, and he said it was an open hardware design:
