On the status monitor I’m reading “Last panel shipped was 1142 on 11/30/10” assuming this timing my panel number #1169 will be shipped in 189 days !!! this is unacceptable, I think my math is ok, but please, please correct me, I would like to be wrong !
I wanted my pcb to be ready for the upcoming holidays you know…
i’ve been keeping my eye on the shipped section since I have an order in on 1151 and i think the last time they updated it it went from 1135 on 11/23 to 1142 on 11/30. I don’t think they update it every time boards ship, just kinda sporadically, but there should be an update soon I would think.
i don’t think you’ll be getting your boards before christmas though if you are on 1169…

They tend to update roughly once a week, and yes, they get a bunch of panels in at once. Also, panels sometimes ship out of order.

How much out of order? I'm on panel 1152 and the last panel they shipped was 1157. I've had two orders from them before and always get a shipping email, so I'm not particularly worried, just curious. Do you, (or anyone else), know if this is because they recieve panels out of sequence from China, or something internal to BatchPCB causing the sequence change?
I had hoped to get my boards for this weekend, but it looks like I’ll have to work on another project instead. Luckily I have enough of those stacked up to keep me busy!
It would be nice if their status page had a little more information like each outstanding panel, or something like that. Wait and see is OK if everything just plods along as expected, but when there’s a wrinkle you can’t really tell what’s going on.
Lead times are 2-3 weeks for 2 layer pcbs and 5-6 for 4 Layer pcbs. Panels go out in numerical/chronological order, but don’t always come back the same way. Also we normally receive around 5-10 panels per each shipment we get. If you have anymore questions email me at Support@batchpcb.com.
Take a look at the news on the BatchPCB main page:
BatchPCB News:
Manufacturer Shutdown
Dec 17, 2010
It is the Holiday season again and also that time of year when our manufacturer shuts down for a month. The dreaded Gold Phoenix shutdown starts December 23, 2010 and ends January 17, 2011. We will still be accepting orders and submitting them to the manufacturer, but lead times will be longer. The manufacturer will be taking orders 4 hrs a day, during the dates of Jan 3 - 14th 2011. During these dates, panels will be submitted for production. There is good news as well. Currently we are working on finding an alternative manufacturer for this shut down period. When an alternative is found the lead times will stay the same as normal… Check the news blog here in the next week for an update about what the production schedule will be.

I doubt they received new boards until yesterday or today; they now have
Does “last panel shipped” mean “shipped from Gold Phoenix” or “processed at SFE and individual boards shipped”? I’m guessing the former.
About how often does a panel/batch of panels get shipped? I understand there’ll be a backlog from the New Year period, is there any way we could get an estimate for a particular panel in that backlog, or any information at all?
Let me make it clear that I’m not complaining about the wait in any way, I’m just asking if there’s any more data that could be made avaliable.
I’m a bit unsure what’s going on right now with this company. I ordered my 2 layer pcb on the 12th of december and the status is still stuck on processing. I understand that the manufacture slowed down for a couple weeks, but a 6+ week lead time is a bit ridiculous.
Anyone else on panel 1205 and doesn’t have the status shipped yet? It’s at panel 1215 now and my order status hasn’t changed yet. Wanted to know if that’s the same for anyone else. I read somewhere that the panels could ship out of order. If this is the case then it makes it hard to track the progress now. My time is getting tight to complete my MBed project for the contest!
I’m surprised at the lack of updates on the news page. The last post talks about the shut down and that they were looking for an alternative supplier and to check back in a week for updates… That was Dec 17th.
My board is on panel 1223 and they are on board 1232 Shipped, but mine is still in processing, so yeah I don’t know how far “out of order” they usually get. I would guess that the holiday shutdown has messed up the typical process.
A page listing the “sent out” and “shipped” dates for each panel over the last couple months would be nice. You can figure it out by monitoring the news page, but that’s a nuisance.
I wanted to have some idea of historical BatchPCB lead times and keep an eye on the trend so I started keeping track of the ‘panel sent’ and ‘panel shipped’ info from the status monitor. While it’s somewhat volatile, I’ve been pleased to see a downward trend in the lead times. The data is unofficial but I found it useful so I thought I would share.
Here is a plot of days elapsed from ‘panel sent’ to ‘panel shipped’ for each panel:
There is a gap around panel numbers 1200-1400 because I had the logger off for awhile.
To figure out the full lead time you should add time for panelizing and whatever else happens between the time your order is placed and when it is ‘sent’. It seems like most panels get ‘sent’ within a couple days of the order being placed. Also, add some time for shipping and you’ll get a good estimate of the full lead time.
