Mp3 trigger for Prop Builders

Hi, I am a newbie to electronics so forgive me i don’t get things right or such a thing already exists or is easily made…

For the life of me I can’t find a decent audio quality, cheap, easy to set up, very small mp3 trigger for embeding in props, for example: laser guns, costumes, and toys etc.

What I would like to see is something that I can attach a couple of buttons to, a battery, a small speaker and that will give a limited choice of mp3 good quality sounds. A micro sd card to easily transfer the mp3s across and at the most 4 or so triggers for sounds. Size being an important factor, perhaps at the most 22mm x 44mm.

I have had a look at the Mp3 trigger V2 and the sumo 14D, what I need is something in between these two. The Mp3 trigger V2 is too big, with a lot of feature I don’t need. the sumo 14D well if anyone can show me a breakout board for my purposes great. …but I don’t want to convert sounds and I’m not sure it’s suitable. A really, really cut down version of the Mp3 trigger V2 would be great. I know there is a HUGE MARKET for this kind of thing.

So help me Sparkfun, you’re my only hope.

We love the MP3 Trigger for its ease of use and versatility, and it’s smaller than you think when it’s sitting on your workbench. But if you want the smallest possible unit, I’d go with the Sumo, an ATTiny to read switches, and a little amplifier chip to drive a speaker.

You could also roll your own, either with the MP3 decoder chip, or using software libraries (see what’s available for Arduino). If you build it, they will come!
