Need help with part.

Trying to find the parts needed for my new pcb, and I seemed to have made the holes for my diodes a bit small. The hole size on the board is about .020", but the leads on the diode are .030" The diode is a 1N4001. I am not putting much power though it, just 12V.

Is there a comparable diode that has smaller diameter leads?

Thanks!

How much current? You could use signal diodes like 1N4148 if it is just a few mA. I’d drill larger holes, if it was a prototype.

How much current are you putting through it?

not sure on exact current, but less 100mA…

If you’re not worried about looking pretty, you could just wire the leads through the holes using coil wire, or some other small wire. If the pads around the holes permit, you could solder the diode to the pads, and forget about the holes altogether. Ugly but functional…

roach has a good idea, It’s not easy to find a smaller diode package that isn’t surface mount or non-axial. This way you’ll also save a buck or two (assuming you already have the diodes).

that is what i was planning on doing, or just using sandpaper to make the leads smaller.

well, i remembered we had a small belt sander here… sanded the leads til they fit the board.

This is a proto board, so i’ll have to increase the hole size for the next run. no biggie
