potentially dead soil moisture sensors?

I recently picked up 5 of the Qwiic soil moisture sensors and the first two I opened up never showed up on the I2C bus. I also tried hooking them up to the I2C mux that I got but was unable to talk to them on that either. I opened up two more and they work fine. I tried a host of Qwiic cables of differing lengths, which work for different sensors. I’ve tried talking to them chained, directly to the controller…no combination worked. They aren’t completely dead, since the red LEDs on the board light up when plugged in.

Can I do something to revive them, or is this a replacement kind of situation?

For reference, I’m using a Thing Plus - ESP32 WROOM as the controller, using the Arduino core. (Not sure if that matters, but more info is better than none…)

Sounds like there’s something wrong with your non working sensors.
