I bought the ProtoBoard - Koala, and after testing it I think the Li-Ion charger chip MAX1555 is broken.
With no battery attached, the output of the IC is 3.5V, regardless of the power source I use. When I attach a battery, the output raises to the battery voltage (3.9V) and the battery actually drains at a steady rate of 5-15mA, depending of if the 5V switch is on. Only when I turn off both switches does the battery trickle-charge at 7mA.
The “Charge” LED is also always on, and when I attach the battery, it just increases brightness. According to the datasheet of MAX1555, the LED pin (pin 3) should be high impedance whenever the charging current is below 50mA. This all doesn’t make sense to me.
I haven’t changed any of the solder jumpers or anything.
Is there something I might be missing here? Can I RMA it if it’s broken?
