Raspberry Pi 400 boot issues

Hello,

I recently purchased Raspberry Pi 400 (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/17376) and I am having issues booting it up. I followed the Beginner’s Guide and plugged in the mouse, ethernet cable, official micro HDMI cable (to the left port, I tried both anyway), SD card (written with both Raspberry Pi Imager and Balena Etcher and with latest Raspbian as well as Manjaro on both 16GB and 64GB Samsung cards) and then plugged in the official USB-C charger. The only sign of life from the device is a few flashes of the power LED (not sure how to count them in order to refer to this post explaning number of LED flashes: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view … 28&t=58151, see attached video for a demonstration). I followed this https://support.thepihut.com/hc/en-us/a … -is-faulty troubleshooting guide and I can rule out all of the possible causes.

Wrong HDMI port: Tried both

Old/Wrong Operating System: Used the latest image from Raspberry Pi foundation website

Power Supply: Using the official white USB-C power supply for Rpi 4

SD Card quality: SD cards are Samsung and Sandisk (16GB and 64GB respectively) and I can see the files inside on my main computer

Re-seat SD card: Done that

Corrupted SD Card: 1- I can read the cards as I explained earlier, 2-the issue is more fundamental: even without putting the SD card in, the device doesn’t turn on the power light, let alone show any boot screen on the monitor.

Check the Indication LEDs: The power LED briefly flashes (I think 3-4 times but it depends on how you “count” those flashes. See the attached video.)

Is there anything I should try before returning the device and claim a replacement?

output3.rar (2.61 MB)

Hmm, that’s weird.

If you remove the SD card and then only connect a monitor and power, do you get a error screen after about a minute?

Nope. I tried with my TV just now (instead of the monitor) and after about five minutes, I didn’t see any activity. Again tried both micro hdmi ports.

I also tried powering it up with my Ipad charger (20W I believe) and some other less powerful usb-c chargers and it always does the same thing.

I would open the case and measure the voltages but as far as I can tell Rpi400 doesn’t have the TP1 and TP2 like other boards. Also I don’t want to void any warranty.

You might have a bad Pi400.

If you purchased the Pi directly off our website, just [fill in the form on this page with your order number and the URL to this forum post and we can replace it for you.

If you purchased from a distributor or Amazon you will need to let them know you have a defective product and arrange with them for an exchange.](Return Policy - SparkFun Electronics)
