Our company bought a set of 7" touchscreen displays.
Each one was fine until we got to one particular screen, which was having some weird screen glitches.
We put all our displays in 3D housing, and so after assembly and turning on the display, we noticed lines going across the screen.
We took the display out of the housing, and turned it on again, and there were no more lines. So we tested the SD card we were using, we tested the DC-DC converter we were using to power the display. After all these small details, we realized that when the screen is in the housing, that is the only time it creates the lines.
Upon some playing around, we found that if we put any sort of pressure on the screen, it creates the lines.
That makes sense due to the fact that when it is not in the housing it is fine, but once teh housing is on, it creates the lines.
So it must be a sensitivity thing with the display, causing it to be unusable. We have used over a hundred displays and have never had this happen. I would also like to note that it is not our housing either.
Where are the 3D housings from?
we get them through proto labs.
if we push on the screen housing or not, it still makes the glitch in the screen

It sounds like inconsistent manufacturing tolerances to me (because the screens work normally without housing)
not necessarily as without the housing if you push on the screen it causes the same issue
not necessarily as without the housing if you push on the screen it causes the same issue housing or not, so we cannot use the screen as it is malfunctioning due to an issue with the screen itself, not what we are doing to it

I’d first be worried that the housing damaged it
so the housing is plastic, and can’t damage the screen at all considering the display sit’s in it, if the housing did damage the screen then this issue would have come up sooner. Again, we have purchased so many displays and this hasn’t been an issue. All other screens in this order are functioning perfectly and they are all set up in the same way as the mal-functioning one. The display also did not fall or bend causing it to be messed up.
Not really sure how to insert a video but once i figure that out I will insert it.
Gotcha - it does sound like a defective screen, then…
Was it purchased from us? If so, head to Return Policy - SparkFun Electronics and fill out the form to get an RMA started (contact vendor for similar if purchased elsewhere) and that should get it goin’
