Removing Encoder from Motor

I picked up a few of these http://letsmakerobots.com/content/faulh … 4a-encoder excellent Faulhaber DC motors and removed the gear box as I just want to drive a small plastic hemisphere at low RPMs. I’ve figured out what are the motor terminals and have removed the wires associated with the encoder, but I’m wondering if I can take the back off and remove the encoder completely (it’s not needed).

Anyone have any experience with this? If I don’t remove it, is is safe to just cut the encoder-related wires and only power the motor via PWM?

Using the encoder is very likely optional - I have yet to see a motor / encode where they were intertwined inside the motor.

So, yes, clip the wires and PWM the motor.

Thanks very much, Dan!
